Several months ago, I served on a panel to discuss the latest telecom whitepaper from the CGA. The whitepaper claimed that the telecom sector has the most potential to impact the U.S. damage prevention system. Over the past few months, I have visited several job sites specific to telecom and observed the work being done, and I am impressed. I now have a high level of confidence in our ability to make an impact. Every site I visited had people doing the work who were highly professional, took great care in their work, and took every precaution to avoid damaging underground facilities. Our industry is doing a lot of the right things. We certainly have work to do, but we have a model that works well when we use it. I think one of the most difficult challenges in front of us is the massive volume of work to be done. We must think outside of our existing model to handle this challenge.
